Does Your Fanpage Suck? – 5-Minute Fan Page Product Review

Well, does it?

Ok we need to get something straight here – when I ask you if it sucks, I don’t mean that it looks bad or even that it is unpopular. What I mean is that it doesn’t do anything for your business.

You see, a lot of business owners miss the point of having a fanpage. Sure, a page with lots of likes can make you look popular and certainly gets you known on social media (who doesn’t want to look like a facebook celebrity?) but it is not capturing leads for the owner’s business.

A fanpage, like a blog has huge potential to add potential customers to your sales funnel and that little ‘like’ button can do more for your bottom line than you ever imagined.

It is my humble opinion that like a lot of small business websites, a lot of fanpages suck and for this reason, I am going to review a product which I think can help you with the problem of having a sucky fanpage once and for all.

Introducing the ’5-minute fan page by Brian Moran

The product is called ’5-minute fanpage’ and, like the name suggests, it can help you to get a page set up in around 5 minutes (lets say ten for measure), so if you like things to be easy and quick, this product is well worth considering. I have read reports of 5-minute fanpage from various different users within my own internet marketing community and overall, the reports are quite positive.

The best thing about the product is that it allows you click and drag together custom fan pages in a matter of minutes even if you are totally new to facebook and have no real design skills – so you can change the template font, the background colors and you can completely customize everything from the click of a button. And the pages are perfect for local businesses for these reasons:

  • They offer you a choice of clean, simple themes for various different industries such as real estate and restaurants and the designs rival those of big companies who have spent much more on their designs
  • There is an option to add an opt-in box, which includes a video so you can collect email addresses and add them to your mailing list. These are activated by the ‘like’ button so you get a subscriber as well as a fan.
  • They work in conjunction with Google Analytics so you can easily track the effectiveness of your page and note any trends.
  • You can have multiple tabs, ideal for different offers, a contact page, other info and videos etc.
  • You can make people like you by blacking out the rest of he page until the ‘like’ button is pressed.

Here are some screen shots of what the designs look like:

Now of course the product doesn’t come without some catches. The first catch is that you have to pay a monthly fee $25 per month in order to keep the page up, so it seems like you don’t actually own the page, the company owns it and it can be pulled down if you don’t continue your payments. The second catch is that the pages have a ‘powered by 5-minute fan pages logo displayed rather prominently at the top of the page. However, upon further investigation, it seems that the company are hapy to remove this once you email their support team and ask them to do it. But it seems that if you don’t ask, you don’t get. However, their support staff are said to be rather obliging.

Also despite what the promotional material says, the product does have some upsells. For example, there is a $77 graphics package, but unlike a lot of other products, you don’t have to buy the upsell in order to make the basic product work. It is an optional extra.

Something that interested me was the fact that you could, for an additional $17 a month fee, purchase a licence right for up to five other fan pages and sell them to other businesses. I realise that this may be out of the scope of most small to medium-sized businesses and is something that would really only appeal to somebody who has  an internet marketing business with clients who would use the service as part of their monthly social media service. There is also some debate too about the fee. Some users claim that the fee is really more like $47. But like I said, unless you are planning to sell fanpages, you don’t need to worry about this, you just have the basic fee.

To me, paying a monthly fee seems a a bit much for a fanpage, but if it helps you to get as much business as it says it does then the monthly fee may be well worth it, especially when you consider how easy the tool is to use and the immense potential for marketing on facebook. I think it is a great tool if you do plan to sell pages or pass them onto clients as the pages look great and it would be hard to find a developer who could do a better job; just make sure you contact the support desk to make sure the branding is removed and you’re good to go.

Anyway, give 5-minute fanpages a go. It’s a fun tool, easy to use and you could even make a profit out of it. At the very least, it will make sure you fan pages don’t suck.
